'Cultivating a Design Legacy: The First Fifty Years' is a hard cover book that chronicles the integrity of Canadian design through iconic case studies. Each chapter represents an era providing a medley of images, historical copy and editorial features one decade at a time.
While this publication features high profile examples of design projects, the book itself is a design piece too. The layouts designed by the Entro team (lead by Creative Director, Doreen Colonello) embraces the teachings of Gilbert Li. This product serves both as an educational read as well as promotional material for Entro Communications. A book launch at the ARTA Gallery on June 1st, 2017 marked the release of the book.
Transforming the gallery into a space that could accommodate a book launch with a 200 guest turn out meant providing an atmosphere that encourages socializing and book signing; supports snacking and drinking; and welcomes speeches and toasts.
Wall mounted and hanging posters decorated the space offering hints about the contents of the book without revealing too much. Project imagery was organized by decade reflecting each chapter. Particularly outstanding projects were highlighted with individual posters and staff were appreciated in a photo collage as well.
Just in time for the 150th Anniversary of Canada's confederation, the release of 'Cultivating a Legacy: The First Fifty Years' and the accomplishments it symbolizes is felt by many members of the design community as a contribution to Canada's identity.
On July 4th, 2017, the book launch was recognized by RGD as a feature article in the Community News section of their website.
